GCHS came away from SkillsUSA State competition with Top Three finishes in several categories. Piper Mangan took 1st in CNC Milling, third place finishes went to Joseph Saltsman, Maintenance and Light Repair; Jesse Decker, Automotive Tool ID; Gabriel Secora and Brandon Baxter, Urban Search and Rescue; and Kaydence Monin and Preston Gary, Video Game Design.
In addition to competition, students had opportunities to network with the businesses -and potential employers - that sponsored the event, including Magna, Boyd CAT, and local unions (Carpentry, Electricity, Welding, and Ironworkers).
To qualify for State, students first had to earn high placement at Regionals - a huge accomplishment in itself. In all, 14 GCHS students qualified with the following finishes:
Piper Mangan, CNC Milling; Roger Gosnell and Caleb Geary(team event), Additive Manufacturing; Jesse Decker, Transportation Tool Identification; Joseph Saltsman, Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair; Austin Williams, Computer Programming; Preston Gary and Kadie Monnin, Interactive Application and Video Game Design, all first place.
Hunter Mattingly, Transportation Tool Identification; Breana Dennison, Computer Programming; and Alexander Skaggs, Precision Machining, second place.
Brandon Baxter and Gabriel Secora (team event), Robotics Urban Search and Rescue, third place; and Graysen Evans, Technical Drafting (CAD), fourth place.
