Adults and elementary students in front of a large Christmas tree holding a $25,000 ceremonial check

New playground equipment will be coming to Caneyville Elementary thanks to a generous $25,000 grant from the Grayson County Healthcare Foundation (GCHF). Board members DeeDee Beeler, Wayne Merriweather, and Executive Director Brittany Clemons recently visited the school to present the ceremonial check. Joining in to celebrate the big news were Principal Josh Basham, PTO member Jessica Rusher, and 5th-grade students Etta Kate Hall, Sadie Probus, Gabe Sines, and Remi McQuady.

The grant request, helmed by Basham and Rusher, was fully funded by the GCHF board. The equipment will be added to the 3-5 grade playground to provide additional play and fitness opportunities tailored to that age group.

Clemons noted the Foundation’s focus on promoting physical activity and addressing obesity as a priority funding area, adding that “when we make an impact in the youth, hopefully, they will make better choices through their lifetime. That’s why this project was such a priority for us.”
