Congratulations to the Grayson County High School Academic Team for its performance at the KAAC Governor's Cup District competition this past Saturday, January 25. The team bested McLean County and Ohio County in quick recall, but fell to a fast-on-the-buzzer Edmonson County team to place second in Quick Recall.
The GCHS Future Problem Solving team placed first in its competition, with members Amanda Fulp, Bahaa El Masri, Haley Hart, Samantha Wendt, and Sarah Kiper advancing to Region; the FPS team is coached by Ellen Thomas.
In English composition, Mackenzie England placed 3rd and Sierra Secora placed 4th; both will advance to Regionals.
Advancing to Regionals in written assessment are:
In Mathematics, Amedeus Thacker placed 2nd and Sierra Secora placed 4th.
In Science, Amedeus Thacker placed 2nd.
In Social Studies, Dakota Adams placed 2nd.
In Language Arts, Dustin Hayden placed 4th.
In Arts and Humanities, Amanda Fulp placed 4th and Isaac Butler placed 5th.
These placings were enough to secure Grayson County as the District Runner Up in total school points, behind Edmonson County. Congratulations to all students advancing to the Regional competition in February!
The GCHS academic team is coached by head coach Bill Newsome and assistant coaches Erina Duvall, Priscilla Gordeuk, and Adam Spinks.
