True teamwork was the theme of the day at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grayson County Technology Center renovation. Legislative action provided the initial $10 million funding to get the project off the ground.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) has been a strong focus of Gov. Andy Beshear. The Kentucky General Assembly has provided additional funding across the state. Local legislators Sen. Steve Meredith and Rep. Samara Heavrin staunchly championed the project.
After many months of meetings and planning by district officials, architect Clotfelter-Samokar, contractor Redlee Construction, and numerous others, the renovation is now ready to become a reality.
Students, staff, state leaders, including Meredith, Heavrin, State Rep. Suzanne Miles, Governor’s Office representative Rocky Adkins, current and former board members, business and community members joined in the ceremony to celebrate this game-changing new beginning.
Time and again, speakers called the renovation “a real team project” and a “game-changer” for students, staff, the community, and business recruitment. It was cited as a giant step in launching the community forward for the next generation, and an example of the great things that happen when people and groups connect and work together.
Scheduled for completion by the 2026-27 school year, the expansion will increase space by 39 thousand square feet. It will bring together current CTE programs, while expanding and adding new offerings in pathways such as engineering, machining, industrial and construction technology, healthcare, marketing and business. New labs will be added for additional hands-on experiences.
“Great things are happening right here and right now at the Grayson County Technology Center,” said Supt. Doug Robinson. “This renovation will increase those opportunities and open even more doors for students and the community alike, as programs, training, facilities, and equipment are taken to the next level.”
“We are so appreciative of the Governor and our legislature recognizing the vital importance that CTE classes and hands-on training provide for the future of our county and of the Commonwealth,” said Supt. Doug Robinson.
“Special thanks go out to our own legislators, Sen. Steve Meredith and Rep. Samara Heavrin, for their always-diligent efforts on behalf of our kids, our schools and the future of our community,” he continued.
“We are thankful to everyone who has joined with us on this journey we’ve ‘officially’ begun today. One that will provide more and even better opportunities for our kids to succeed wherever they go in life. We’re excited to see Grayson County continue to grow and thrive.”
