Grayson County Middle School has earned recognition from US News & World Report as a "Best Middle School." Conducted on a three-year cycle, GCMS garnered the recognition in 2022, and now again in 2025 for back-to-back honors.

The rankings analyze the mathematics and reading performance of public schools at the state and district levels. Half of the formula is determined by state assessment scores with the other half incorporating test results based on socioeconomic demographics. This process validates the high achievement levels of top-ranked schools and their success in providing quality education for all their students.

"This is a fitting recognition for students and staff who have worked extremely hard to improve student achievement levels,” said Principal Gary Parker. “Earning the recognition for the second time shows that we are consistently prioritizing student success."

GCMS is also in the top 25 percent of all state middle schools for the 2024 school year, based on Kentucky State Assessment results.
