Suggest that your teen take a 15-minute mental vacation to relax when they're coping with stress. They can close their eyes and take deep breaths. Or they might zone out while listening to a soothing nature recording from YouTube or from the Calm app. #GCMSOpportunity

Celebrating 30 years of Family Resource & Youth Service Centers! Hats off to our own tremendous FRYSC directors and staff for the commitment, support, and caring they bring year round to our students and families. #FRYSCStrong with Kim Cannon, Caneyville; Ann Brooks, Clarkson; Rick Whobrey, GCMS/Wilkey; and Barbara Allen, GCHS/Lawler
Your teen will need to use a style guide (MLA, APA, or Chicago Manual of Style) for writing assignments. Whatever guide is assigned, remind them to refer to it frequently as they write to format their work and document sources correctly.
Is your teen a techie? Suggest that they take an online class or watch YouTube videos to teach themselves a new technology skill. They might learn to build a website, design a mobile app, or write a computer program. They’ll build skills they can carry forward into a career.
Internet challenges can encourage teens to try dangerous stunts to get “likes” and comments. Ask your child what challenges they have heard about, and talk about the hazards involved. Also, it’s a good idea to “friend” them on social media so you keep up with what’s happening.
Consider letting your teen have more freedom when it comes to smaller decisions like how to wear their hair. Your relationship will be smoother, & they’ll be more receptive to what you have to say about more serious issues like vaping & social media safety.

Another great week of in-person learning at GCMS! Our teachers and students are really going the extra mile! #GCMSOpportunity @gcboe
Encourage your teen to correct their mistakes on graded tests, then save them in a folder. They’ll be reminded of the types of questions they’ll see on future tests. And making corrections will reinforce material they may need for future learning. #GCMSOpportunity
If your teen struggles with a science concept, suggest searching the library database for a picture book on the topic. Reading a book aimed toward younger children can provide background knowledge that will help them understand the material. #GCMSOpportunity
Prepping healthy meals in advance can lead to better eating habits. Help your teen make three days’ worth of breakfasts or lunches that include whole grains, lean protein, and fruits and veggies. They can grab their “fast food” before school or between online classes.
