Many kids this age stop reading for pleasure. Your child will be more likely to keep up the habit if you let them decide what to read and respect their choices. Any reading material, from comic books to short stories to poetry, will help to keep their skills sharp.
Congratulations to Haley Kennedy for "being the good!" She received the Team Player Award & got some cool crazy socks today! Way to make obstacles into opportunities! #GCMSOpportunity
Taking notes helps your teen understand and remember what they learn. If they miss something the teacher says, they can leave a blank line in their notes and ask after class. If they're learning remotely, they might record lectures to play back and check against their notes.
Teens may be targets of identity theft because most haven’t established a credit history. To protect your child, remind them to set social media accounts to private. They should also create strong passwords that they change frequently and never share with anyone except parents.
Ask your teen to reflect on remote learning & make tweaks if needed. If they struggle to keep track of work, they could list each day’s assignments on a white board, using a different color for each class. Then they could check them off one-by-one upon completion.

When your teen gets graded tests and quizzes back, recommend that they look up the answers to any questions they got wrong. They can put the right answer on the test and use the corrected paper to study for midterms or finals. #GCMSOpportunity

After your teen completes a first draft of a writing assignment, they can use the “find & replace” feature to locate repeated words. Examples: “important,” “very,” “other.” Encourage them to find synonyms in a thesaurus or rewrite sentences so the overused words aren’t needed.

It’s easier for your child to stick to a workout routine if they team up with a buddy. Suggest that they download the same fitness app as a friend and share their progress with each other. They can set goals together and offer one another encouragement. #GCMSOpportunity

Most everyday math is made up of simple calculations. Encourage your teen to practice by calculating expenses for family projects or trips, determining the tip when ordering from a restaurant, and dividing the cost of a shared gift. #GCMSOpportunity
