Fitt Fiddle has returned to Grayson County Schools for a second year, bringing fun and inspiration to elementary students throughout the district.

The Fit as a Fiddle Kickoff was held recently, bringing together community members and GCHS student leaders with K-5 students to emphasize the importance of daily physical activity in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Students explored various fitness opportunities available in their own community and enjoyed interactive games that made exercise feel like play. Thanks to Owensboro Health, every student received a fitness tracker to monitor their daily steps.

With two more visits scheduled, this year's expanded program will continue to provide education and fun through Fitt Fridays.

Program sponsors Leitchfield Parks & Recreation, Leitchfield Pediatric Clinic, Owensboro Health Twin Lakes, and the Grayson County Healthcare Foundation have generously donated incredible prizes for some added motivation. Students can also complete the Fit as a Fiddle Bingo Card to be entered into year-end drawings.

"With technology competing for kids' attention, it's essential for adults and community members to encourage the younger generation to get outside and stay active as often as possible," said Fitt Fiddle Events Coordinator Brandi Lee. "We understand that staying active can be challenging during the winter months, so we created Bingo exercises that kids can do indoors without any equipment."

The program’s first visit received an enthusiastic response. Clarkson PE Teacher Kristen Cook shared, "Our kids had so much fun! The volunteers were great, the GCHS students were amazing, and several kids have already turned in their Bingo cards!"

Lee noted that the Fitt Fiddle Committee "works hard to make exercise and movement fun for kids so they become excited about adopting a healthy lifestyle."

By starting at the elementary level, the Fit as a Fiddle program highlights the power of building healthy habits at an early age as it demonstrates the lasting impact of positive lifestyle choices.
