Congratulations to GCHS on being named to the US News & World Report Best High Schools List, coming in at #58 and placing the school in the top 25%.


Congratulations to GHCS DECA on a very successful Nationals experience.
Placing in the Top 25% in their Competitive Events were: Maggie Clark, Bailey Collins, Emma Finch, Evan Hayse, Eli Helm, Maranda Henderson, Chase Minton, Thomas Ross, and Sadie Stone, along with the national Top 10 team of Dylan Geary, Abby Hayse, and Josie McStoots. In addition, Tyler Dockery, Madelynn Henning, and Shelby Gary participated in the Thrive Leadership Academy.

GCHS took Top 3 Honors in several categories at the Kentucky National History Day Contest, April 26, at the University of Kentucky. 1st and 2nd place advance to the National History Day finals, June 11 at the University of Maryland. In its first year of STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program), GCMS has had two students recognized at the State Level. Isaac Dowell placed 2nd in an Art on Demand Photoshop project, going head-to-head in a timed competition with more than 2 dozen students from around the state. Victoria Lofgren was recognized for her role in the Girls Who Code program and a potential Maker Space concept for GCMS next year.
The Lawler Elementary team also earned a berth at State, competing in a Level 2 Project, Quick Recall, Bench Challenge, Newscast, Website Design, Help Desk Support and Photo On-Demand.
Congratulations to these students, and the teachers and school leaders who have supported them this year –DeeDee Webb, Stephanie Brey, Samantha McGrew, Yevette Kopp and district CIO Jerrod Graybeal. Look for great things next year as more students take up the STLP challenge, especially those with an eye on tech careers.



Several GCHS students will be spending their summer at prestigious honors programs throughout the state.
Payton Abney and Brooklyn Glasscock have been selected to attend the Governor's Scholars Program (GSP), with Taeja Parsons an alternate. Jessica Manion has been accepted into the Commonwealth Honors Academy (CHA) at Murray State University. Sophomore Mason Parker was selected by audition for the Governors School for the Arts (GSA).



Top three finishes for these SkillsUSA competitors at State! L – R: In Carpentry Ty Haycraft took 3rd place in Construction Tool ID. Machining student George Priddy placed 1st in Precision Machining Technology, Sandan Paddock took 3rd in CNC Milling Specialist. Amedeus Thacker placed 1st in CNC Milling Specislist, an achievement that will have him Nationals bound this summer.


The inaugural Leadership Grayson County Schools class recently wrapped up an eight-month journey through the district. LGCS piloted last September to give community and business leaders an opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of the school system. From finances to food service, transportation to technology, participants got an up-close overview during monthly “lunch and learn” sessions at the Board office and in schools. The program was designed to build better understanding of district operations, while showcasing school programs and success stories.


Caneyville 5th graders were thrilled to get a firsthand history lesson recently from 2nd District Rep. Brett Guthrie. FCCLA Regionals Feature Firsts, Multiple Successes

The annual Track & Field Exhibition gives elementary students an introduction to the GCS program and competitive events including the 50-meter dash, javelin, shot put and long jump. It’s free, and all participants get an ice pop to cool off after all that fun! Bring your child out to the GCHS track, Tuesday, April 23, 4:30 pm to explore all that Track & Field has to offer.


Tessa Blain has been selected by the Grayson County Retired Teachers Association as the countywide winner of the 2018-19 "Grandparent of the Year" essay contest, jointly sponsored by AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. See full story an all winners http://bit.ly/2UEffQw

GCHS DECA members exemplified the organization’s national theme, “Ready for It,” with outstanding State Conference performances. Nineteen students qualified for Nationals and three will attend the THRIVE academy for emerging leaders. A BIG thank you to GCDC staff for personally sponsoring this opportunity each year, as well as the herculean effort they give in making Senior Social such a memorable rite of passage. Turning dreams into dollars! Culinary students Gracyn Cook, Erika Khan, Chloe Cox and Josie Decker have been awarded a $1,000 grant from the AdCap (Adventure Capital) Youth Shark Tank style program to help kick start a staff lunch delivery pilot at GCHS, complete with a future mobile meals concept.


Grayson County Technology Center SkillsUSA competitors are headed to State, with top three finishes at Regional Conference. In Carpentry events, Raven Secora took 1st place with Ty Haycraft and Derryce Smith placing 3rd in their events. Machining students Sandan Paddack and George Priddy placed 1st and Amedeus Thacker took 2nd place. Levi VanMeter placed 3rd in Automotive and Samuel Vincent 1st in Welding.


Congratulations to GCHS senior Jonathan Nelson, awarded the Kentucky School Boards Association First Generation Scholarship during the KSBA Conference in Louisville, Feb 22 - 23. The $2,500 award is presented annually to one male and one female senior who is the first in their family to attend college. The scholarship is good to any two- or four-year college or university.
